Quota tussle delays IIM admissions
April 20: All Indian Institutes of Management IIMs were worried for announcing their last selection list on April 21. With the recent tussle over OBC quota, the apex court is yet to take decision in this regard. So, all the six directors were scheduled to meet on yesterday. However, a fresh communication between IIMs and government officials put the admission process on hold till April 23, until the Supreme Court hearing.

Yesterday, all six directors met HRD representative. The government has ordered to wait till the hearing on Monday. The IIMs expressed their concern over admission process and told that they canâ??t put the admission process on hold as the government is not sure about the outcome.
However, there were pressures and central government had threatened to reduce the funding, reminding them their poor track record in implementing the previous SC/ST quota. Government sources also said that they are aware of the problem arising from the delay and will take all necessary steps to solve the matter and as soon as possible.
Officials further added that if the IIMs went on without entertaining the OBC quota, then it would weaken the stand and will be a violation of governmentâ??s order. IIMs after hearing the case decided to offer admission only after SCâ??s decision. However the IIMs have their own limitations and can wait only to a certain period of time. At the same time government is planning to implement the 27% OBC reservation from the current academic year. The Supreme Courtâ??s hearing on Monday is going to be the deciding factor.
