Kochi, Dec.5 (ANI): A special elephant show organized here on Thursday evening offered a glimpse of Indian tradition and Kerala's culture to the members of the participating teams in the Volvo Ocean Race in Kochi, the second-leg stopover of the 37,000 nautical miles ocean race here.
The special show was quite a draw at the race village for the Volvo team members.
The performance of 15 caparisoned elephants and 45 traditional artistes fascinated one and all. For many of the visitors, it was a first ever close experience of elephants.
"This is awesome. We are filming it. It is such a great show. Since so many people have come here, it is really great for the race to get more people here and it's fantastic," said Helen, Volvo Team Official.
"I think it is amazing. I think it's very different from everything in the races every time. I think that coming to India is a totally new experience and the experience with the sailors where everyone is involved in the race so the elephants and everything in India is really exciting and different," said Bridgid Murphy, Media Manager, Puma.
Many such entertainment programmes are scheduled to enthrall the team members during their 10-day stopover in Kochi for their second leg of the Volvo Ocean race.
With the arrival of the last yacht Team from Russia, all the eight participating yachts in the race have arrived in Kochi.The Volvo Ocean Race commenced its round-the-world marathon sailing in October 2008 and in due course it will cover more than 39,000 nautical miles, visiting 11 ports across the world.Starting from Alicante in Spain, it will have stopover at Cape Town, Cochin, Qingdao, Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Galway, Goteborg and Stockholm, before reaching the finishing line at St.Petersburg.The race's next destination is scheduled to be Singapore. All the teams will be leaving Kochi on December 13. (ANI)
