Faberge: precious jewellery of Russian empire inaugurated

New Delhi, Dec 5 (ANI): An exhibition entitled "Faberge: precious jewellery of the Russian empire" was inaugurated here today.

 

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni, President ICCR Dr. Karan Singh and Minister of Culture, Russian Federation Alexander Avdeev were present on the occasion.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Soni referred to the close cultural ties between India and Russia and said this exhibition will further strengthen the bilateral cultural cooperation between the two countries. Festival of India in Russia will be celebrated in 2009.

 

Referring to the exhibition, Soni said she is confident that it will attract a large number of viewers and visitors to the National Museum, as jewellery is an integral part of Indian living.

 

The Russian Minister said both the countries increase people to people contact through such exhibitions as they have close cultural ties.

 

The exhibition consists of 196 pieces of the Faberge exhibition from London, St. Petersburg and Moscow.

 

The work of Carl Faberge (1846-1920) echoes the events of his time and is intimately associated with the turbulent Russian history at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

 

The exhibition will remain open from December 6 to January 18. (ANI)
