July 16: Japan trembled once again as a strong earthquake shacked northwestern Japan today in the morning. It killed at least two people and injured more than 100 people, according to the witnesses and official. Fifteen houses were destroyed and about 1,500 flooded from the tremor and tsunami that indicated in the coastal region of Niigata in the form of small waves.

According to US Geological survey, a strong tremor with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale jolted in Kashiwazaki City of Honshu Island early at 0113 GMT. The epicenter of the quake was about 60km (37 miles) southwest of Niigata coast or 260 km northwest of Tokyo. Quake collapsed several wooden homes and also influenced a building.

Whereas Japanese Meteorological Agency had issued a warning against tsunami, which can hit the coastal region of Niigata along with some other small waves that can hit other parts of the country. But after some time it was lifted for seeing not any chances of tremor.

Three nuclear reactors automatically shut down in which flames and black smokes were seen pouring from one of the reactor when the quake hit in the Kashiwazi city. After some time the fire caught in a transformer situated near the reactor. Though no radioactive were released according to the official.

The rescue process was going on in the hope of saving some one’s life, who might be trapped inside any of the collapsed homes in Kashiwazaki. The power and gas supply were cut off about 35,000 households of the city and there were blockage of the roads and bridges near the near the coastal side.

The service of several bullet trains linking to Tokyo and northern and northern-west Japan were also affected as public broadcaster NHK said, “The service of the bullets trains linking to this region will be suspended until the situation goes under control”.

The government has already set up a crisis management headquarters for helping the victims and their relatives. Japan is also known as for its earthquake and volcano. Now tsunami has been added in this list too. Before this an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck Niigata in October 2004 killed 65 people and a tremor with a magnitude of 7.2 killed more than 6,400 in Kobe in Japan.
