A third of Brit teens under pressure to have sex during Christmas

London, Dec 4 (ANI): More than 34 percent adolescents are under major pressure to have sex during Christmas, according to a new British poll.

The poll, conducted on 1000 adolescents, also revealed that 68 percent of adolescents are under pressure to drink alcohol.

Despite the statistics, two-third of parents tend to believe that only other people kids tend to have sex.

The survey was conducted as apart of Time to Talk campaign, which aims at encouraging more and more parents to openly talk to their children about these issues.

The campaign highlighted figures from the Office for National Statistics, which show a dramatic increase in conception rates among teenagers during December and January.

The poll revealed that adolescents cited their peers as the main source of pressure on them to have sex (58 per cent), while 15 per cent blamed the media.

More than three quarters of boys (77 per cent) said they felt the pressure came from their friends, compared with 44 per cent of girls.

"We've now got solid research which shows young people are much more likely to get pregnant over Christmas than at other times of the year," the Telegraph quoted Gill Frances, chairwoman of the Government's Teenage Pregnancy Independent Advisory Group, as saying.

"I know that many parents are already doing a brilliant job of talking to their teenagers about sex and relationships but I'd urge all parents to give it a try," she added.

The campaign advised Brit parents to talk to their children before Christmas, as more pregnancies tend to take place during Christmas.

"It's never too late to start talking about sex and relationships and having that conversation now, before the Christmas party season, could make a very positive difference to a young person's life," Gill added. (ANI)
