Ponting says his wrist is fine

Australasia, Thu, 04 Dec 2008 IANS

Sydney, Dec 4 (IANS) Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting said Thursday that his troublesome wrist is fine and it won't stop him from leading the team in the Test series against South Africa starting Dec 17.

The 33-year-old Tasmanian met surgeon Greg Hoy here Thursday for the first time since his surgery in July.

'Today was more of a check-up, it's the first opportunity I've had to see Greg since I resumed playing again. I've had a bit of discomfort over the last few months but most players on the international cricket scene have a bit of pain they carry through the season,' Ponting was quoted as saying by The Australian.

Ponting added that he still feels little discomfort while batting but said he had no plans to reduce his playing or training workload.

The Australian captain also said that he was looking forward to playing the first Test against South Africa in Perth from Dec 17.

'All the results this morning were good. He (Hoy) advised me that there's no need for cortisone or anything like that at this stage, so I'll continue on as I have been,' Ponting said.

'I haven't missed a game or training session or even downgraded a training session... this little break that I've got now will hopefully hold me in good stead for the Perth Test.'
