6.1-magnitude quake hits northern Japan, no casualties

Tokyo, Dec 4 (ANI): An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 hit the coast of northern Japan on Thursday morning.

 

According to the local meteorological agency, no immediate reports of damage and casualties were reported. No danger of tsunami has been issued after the quake.

 

The quake hit off the coast of Miyagi, about 290 kilometers north of Tokyo. It struck at a depth of about 10 kilometers.

 

The most recent major quake in Japan killed more than 6,400 people in the western port city of Kobe in January 1995. (ANI)
