New Delhi, Dec 3 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday criticised the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) for not fully rewarding a bus conductor who had sustained a bullet injury while protecting passengers from robbers.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar asked the DTC to consider the promotion plea of the bus conductor and said, 'Had he been employed in some private company, he would have got better facilities for his courage.'
The bench would take up the matter for further hearing Monday.
The case pertains to Budh Prakash, a bus conductor who sustained a bullet injury while protecting passengers of his bus from robbers who tried to loot the vehicle on way to Dehradun in 1998.
DTC, the state-run public transport agency in the national capital, had only added an increment of Rs.200 in his basic salary for his act of bravery.
Prakash pleaded that the DTC had discriminated against him as in such cases earlier employees had been promoted.
After hearing his contention, the court asked the DTC counsel to take instruction from its chairman and report back Monday, the next date of hearing.
