Seven Bangladeshis held in Andhra Pradesh

National, Wed, 03 Dec 2008 IANS

Hyderabad, Dec 3 (IANS) Seven Bangladeshis were arrested at Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada railway station after they were found travelling without valid train tickets, the police said.

The Bangladeshis were being interrogated as to how and why they entered India, the police said.

The arrestd men reportedly told the police that they were going to the Maldives for jobs. Since the person who promised to take them to the Maldives did not meet them in Kolkata, they were left stranded and had no idea of the route to Chennai.

They boarded the Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram Kerala Express at Warangal. As the ticket controller found them travelling without tickets, he alerted the Vijayawada railway police and they were taken into custody.

The police found in their possession valid passports and visas and also train tickets from Howrah to Chennai and Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram.

Though the police confirmed that they have no links with any terror group, officials said they were trying to find out why they travelled to different places, including Warangal.
