July 14: Director duo Abbas-Mustan’s suspense thriller Naqaab opened in a high note with a good script and a perfect execution of the imagination in which the directors masters into. However, the movie illustrates improvisation in all fields especially the thrill as the film proceeds.

Staring Akshye Khana, Bobby Deol and debutant Urvashi Sharma the film though a bit stumpy in the first half but make some twist and turns after the interval that force the audience guessing about the climax.

The story line moves with the introduction of Sophie (Urvashi) a middle-class girl who does not mind to have a live-in relationship with a millionaire Karan (Bobby). But with the entry of Vicky (Akshye) an ambitious actor who can go beyond to make his dreams come true, the plot starts moving. A love triangle starts as Sophie develops a yielding approach for Vicky that later strains her relationship with Karan.

The suspense of the movie actually starts just before the second half as someone hidden watching all activities of the three and filming them with a video camera. The director in fact tried to make confusion in your mind to the last moment and keeps you guessing till the climax comes.

As far as acting is concerned, like the previous movie Humraaz, Akshye Khana again left nothing to prove his acting talent. In fact the first half was totally for Akshye and he really did justice to his character. Bobby Deol in the second half dominates though after watching the movie you would like to give all credit to the newcomer Urvashi.

Urvashi Sharma with a modeling background does not make you feel that it is her first movie instead; she acted with full confidence and naturally as the plot demands. Probably this is the reason that the Tips film has signed an eight film deal with the actress.

Coming back to the movie, the music is comforting though only there are three tracks but still will stay in your mind for at least the next album comes in to the market. Pritam’s music with Sameer’s lyrics is a good recipe to add some melody in a very baffling atmosphere.

The technical part including the cinematography and editing has been done proficiently as shooting in foreign location was not important. The most exciting part of the movie is that the directors are able to sustain the suspense thought not thrill till the climax.

In the end Naqaab is a good movie to watch at least once if you go by the promos. Though it is not the most shocking thriller but enough twist and turns in the story plot certainly makes it different from other thrillers of Abbas-Mustan.
