Demand for a single Madhes state will disintegrate the country: Khanal
Kathmandu, June 30 (ANI): Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML) General Secretary Jhala Nath Khanal on Monday said that the demand for 'one Madhes one state' will lead the country towards disintegration.
Stating that the model for a new Nepal will be multiregional, Khanal remarked that the demand to declare the entire Terai region one Madhes state will harm any sense of nationality.
According to Kantipur reports, Khanal was addressing a programme organised by UML aligned Trade Unions on the eve of the ninth National Council today in Kathmandu, he said that such demands will divide the country into two national states- a hilly region and Terai (southern plains).
Khanal, however, said that an environment would be created within the next few days for the Constituent Assembly (CA) to operate smoothly.
He stressed on the need to forge a common stand among the major three parties and said that there was no alternative to cooperation. (ANI)
