Chandigarh, Dec 2 (IANS) About 1,500 police personnel will be on duty during the visit of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh here Wednesday in connection with a controversy last year over his dress, an official said Tuesday.
'We have called additional police force from the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana. There will be around 1,500 policemen on special duty on Wednesday. They will be stationed at various locations of the city beautiful,' S.S. Srivastava, senior superintendent of police (Chandigarh), told IANS.
The Dera chief is expected to go to the Punjab police headquarters here on the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The Punjab police will question him in connection with his controversial robe - the Dera chief has been at the centre of a major controversy since April last year after he appeared attired in the manner of the 10th Sikh guru, Gobind Singh.
Thousands of followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect are also expected to throng the city.
'We cannot comment on the exact number of people, but we have an information that over 30,000 people are expected to come here Wednesday. We have earmarked a special rally ground in Sector 25 for the people who want to assemble here and to demonstrate,' said Srivastava.
The Haryana police have provided Z-category security cover to the controversial sect head. He has been charged of conspiracy in two murder cases and has also been accused of raping a 'sadhvi' (female follower) inside his sprawling and fortified sect campus near Sirsa town in Haryana, around 300 km from here.
