Heavy schoolbags turning kids into 'hunchbacks'

Wellington, June 30 (ANI): A physiotherapist has warned that heavy schoolbags are turning a majority of New Zealand kids into 'hunchbacks'.

Steve August revealed that heavy school backpacks and an inactive lifestyle were leaving an large number of children with "dowager's hump" and are compelled to walk with a bent, which can also track into adulthood.

"To an extent, these factors are creating a nation of hunchbacks," Stuff.co.nz quoted August, as telling Otago Daily Times.

"That posture traps nerves, causes nerve damage, headaches, neck problems, and occupational overuse syndrome," he added.

The problem worsens for students who carry their bags on one shoulder that has led to assymetrical spine.

Some schools were now offering students an ergonomic backpack, which distributed weight evenly, reducing muscle fatigue and stress on the spine. (ANI)
