Moga (Punjab), Dec 2 (IANS) A Hindu religious group Tuesday began special prayers involving 250 priests in this Punjab town to 'reduce the effects of terrorism and economic meltdown on India', an organiser said.

One hundred 'havan kunds' (sacred fire places) were put up on a seven acre site near Moga, about 200 km from Chandigarh. A total of 250 priests from Varanasi have been brought for the prayers.

A big hut has been set up at the prayer site by artisans from Kolkata.

The eitht-day 'yagya', costing Rs.3 million, was being organised by the Sri Mahalaxmi Yagya Samiti, according to its president Vinay Budhiraja.

'The yagya is being organised to reduce the effects of terrorism and economic meltdown on India,' he said here.

The Mumbai terror attack last week left 183 people dead and over 300 injured.
