In the wake of last week’s deadly terror attacks in country’s financial capital Mumbai, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R.R. Patil Monday submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Patil’s resignation followed the exit of home minister Shivraj Patil who tendered his resignation yesterday owing moral responsibility of the ghastly act which left at least 183 dead and over 350 wounded.
"I have submitted my resignation letter to chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. I have gone by my conscience and decided to take this step," Patil said.
NCP supremo, who is also the Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar has also asked the state chief minister Deshmukh to accept Patil’s resignation.
Speaking to scribes, Pawar said, Patil was feeling "uneasy" since the terror strikes and he had expressed his desire to step down three days back.
Patil’s exit was also called for considering his reckless statement in which he described Mumbai terror attacks as “small incidents”.
Next to Patil’s exit, it is now almost certain that Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh to follow the same path as pressure mounts from both within and outside the party.
Deshmukh is also meeting stern criticism from all quarters for taking Bollywood film director Ram Gopal Verma and his two sons along with him while visiting devastated Taj Mahal Hotel yesterday.
