At the end of polling for Delhi Assembly constituencies, the Election Commission on Saturday issued notice to Congress MLA and education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely for alleged violation of the model code of conduct and sought his response by Sunday evening.
Reportedly, the commission has received complaint against Lovely, who is contesting the assembly poll from Gandhi Nagar constituency, for using his official writing pad with the national emblem embossed on it to appeal to the electors to vote for him.
The commission in a statement said that the contestant in that appeal highlighted his achievement as a minister to lure the voters.
'We have decided to afford Lovely an opportunity to furnish an explanation as to why action should not be taken for the alleged violation of the model code of conduct,' the commission added.
A total of 863 candidates went for their poll test on Saturday morning for 69 seats of the 70-member Assembly polls, while the polling for Rajendra Nagar seat, where BJP candidate Puran Chand Yogi allegedly committed suicide weeks ago, will take place on December 13.
According to reports, an average of 45% of the 1.05 crore voters cast their votes in the first six hours of the polling. The multiple terror strike in Mumbai might have some impact on voter’s psyche; as a result the polling percentage reported quite low in the first few hours of the day.
Counting of votes will take place on December 8. The term of the present Legislative Assembly of Delhi is expiring on December 17.
