New Delhi, Nov 28 (IANS) Eight foreigners have been killed and 22 injured in the terror attack in Mumbai, a senior official said Friday as commandos found the bodies of five hostages at Nariman House, a Jewish centre where an Israeli rabbi and his wife were taken hostage by terrorists.
'Among the eight foreigners killed three are Germans, one Japanese, one Canadian, one Australian and two others are still unidentified,' Special Secretary (Internal Security) M.L. Kumawat told reporters here.
He said 22 foreigners were injured in the attack. The terrorists, who had apparently arrived in Mumbai by the sea, went on a shooting spree at a few prominent places in the city before laying siege to two luxury hotels and a multi-storey house.
'Among the injured are three Germans, two US citizens, and one Spanish, Canadian, Filipino, Australian, Italian, Omani and Chinese national each. The nationality of two foreigners has not been ascertained yet,' Kumawat added.
The official said that two commandos of the elite National Security Guards (NSG) had lost their lives in the gunbattle. Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was killed in the operation at the Taj Mahal Hotel, while Hawaldar Chander was killed at Nariman House.
'In total, 477 security personnel, including NSG commandos, are undertaking the operations in Mumbai. One fresh contingent of 60 NSG commandos has been despatched to Mumbai,' the official added.
He said AK-47s, two pistols, some unexploded Chinese grenades were recovered from the Oberoi Trident Hotel.
His comments came as the NSG commandos found the bodies of five hostages in Nariman House, a Jewish community centre, where an Israeli rabbi and his wife were among the hostages.
Terrorists brandishing AK47s laid siege to Mumbai since late Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of at least 143 people and injuries to 327.
