Wage slip linked to Beatles' Eleanor Rigby track fetches 177,000 dlrs

Washington, November 28 (ANI): The pay-slip that though to be the inspiration behind the Beatles' hit Eleanor Rigby sold for 177,000 dollars at auction.

The auction was held in the legendary band's hometown of Liverpool, England on Thursday.

The 97yr-old document was said to be the wage slip of a household maid named E. Rigby from Liverpool.

According to reports, an advocate for disabled children obtained the document after she urged Beatles legend Sir Paul MCCartney to donate money to a children's charity.

Seller Annie Mawson thinks that Macca sent the slip to her so that she could raise funds for the Sunbeams Music Trust, announcing that she would donate the full amount to the good cause.

While the wage slip has fetched the whopping amount money, McCartney has denied that the document inspired his famous sombre tune, insisting he made the title character up.

"Eleanor Rigby is a totally fictitious character that I made up. If someone wants to spend money buying a document to prove a fictitious character exists, that's fine with me," Contactmusic quoted him as saying. (ANI)
