Panaji, Nov 27 (IANS) Goa Thursday increased surveillance of its sea coast following a word of advice from Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh to his Goa counterpart Digambar Kamat in the aftermath of the terror attacks in Mumbai.
'He asked me to ensure surveillance over the sea routes, because the terrorists in last night's Mumbai terror strikes had used the sea to enter the city,' Kamat told reporters here after a high-level security review meeting at hsi official residence.
Kamat had telephoned Deshmukh to offer him support in the time of crisis.
Acting on Deshmukh's tip, the Goa government immediately requisitioned the services of maritime outfits to patrol the sea and the two main rivers along Goa's 120-km long coastline.
'The help of the navy, Coast Guard and the Customs has been sought so that the coast can be effectively patrolled,' Kamat stated.
'We have also pressed our marine police force into action in order to supplement the efforts,' he added.
The review meeting was attended by representatives of the Airports Authority of India and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) which is in charge of all vital installations in the state.
Security at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here was beefed up Wednesday night immediately after the terror strikes in Mumbai.
