Five school kids run over by speeding train
Ghaziabad, Nov 27 (IANS) Five school children were killed Thursday afternoon when a speeding train ran over them at a railway track that they were crossing on their way home.
The incident took place around 1.30 p.m. while the school kids were crossing the rail tracks near Ramprastha locality, in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, adjoining the national capital Delhi.
The children were crushed by the Patna bound Shramjivi Express from Delhi, which they failed to see approaching.
'About 20 students of class 8 were returning to their residences at Maharajpur locality from school. They had undertaken a short cut below an over bridge when the speedy train crushed them,' Station Officer of Link Road police station Parashuram told reporters here.
He said the critically injured children were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead. The deceased were identified as Vivek Tiwari, Imtiaz, Rahul and Rakesh while the fifth child could not be identified.
The kids, aged about 14-15 years, studied at Sarvodaya Sah-Sikshha Uchtar Madhymik Vidyalay, a government co-educational intermediate school at Anand Vihar in Delhi.
