BCCI and ICL conflict continues with Kapil
July 11: First the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) threatened to take action against the former players who tie knot with the newly formed Indian Cricket League (ICL) and the statement Kapil Dev - “sack me if you can” is the now on the news.
Currently India’s lone World Cup winning captain is the honorary member of the National Cricket Academy. But as BCCI doesn’t recognize ICL working parallel to the apex body, it made it clear that either the players who joined ICL should leave their position or forget the pension that BCCI give to some of the former players.
Few months back Kapil Dev has accepted the position for the Chairman of Executive Board of ICL along with two others Kiran More and Sandeep Patil. However, as said by Nirajan Shah “Whoever is linked with any events without BCCI approval has to lose all benefits they get from the board,"
According to Joint Secretary MP Pandove as the BCCI does not recognise the India Cricket League (ICL), the former Indian captain will have to give up one of the two posts.
With such comments from both sides the drift seems wider though it will be difficult for the board to take any harass decision against Kapil Dev as it may go against public wish who admire Kapil as a great player and a personality.
Kapil however confirmed his association with ICL coating that his association will only help him contribute to Indian cricket. Again with the support of other players it would be difficult for BCCI to sack the National Cricket Academy Chairman.
