Orissa state BJP, BJD unit wake up to poll preparation

Bhubaneswar, Sat, 28 Jun 2008 NI Wire

As the Centre is facing a political uncertainty signalling early general elections and the Bharatiya Janta Party’s recent announcement of candidates, the Bharatiya Janta Dal (BJD) an allay of BJP in Orissa is also in the poll mode by discussing its strategy for the forthcoming assembly and national elections.

The BJD on Saturday has started a series of meetings amongst its party members to analyse their own performance along with the possibilities of party’s future in the upcoming polls. The meeting would also focus on its alliance with BJP and field of candidates as per their winabilty.

BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani along with state chief minister Naveen Patnaik would also address a joint rally at Birsa Maidan in Rourkela on Sunday, as a two-day BJP state executive meet begins from today.

The BJP leaders will also discuss about the name of the possible candidates before finalising the list with their alliance partner Biju Janta Dal for the coming Lok Sabha as well as state assembly polls.

A joint public rally by both the top brass leaders has a vital significance in the wake of the poll fever as both the parties would try to disfigure the UPA government taking common cause of price rise, spiralling inflation and the present nuclear deal.

BJP state president Suresh Pujari, party's national vice-president Jual Oram and other state top leaders will also join the public meeting. This is probably a constructive attempt by BJP and BJD to further enhance their tie and move towards a successful poll campaign ahead of the next poll.

The opposition Congress on Friday has also carried out a “Jail Bharo Andolan” in Berhampur challenging the Naveen Patnaik led government on issues like growing maoists influence, unemployment and over all development of the state. But somehow the rally couldn’t generate that much attention as was expected.
