Blueline mows down labourer in Delhi
New Delhi, Nov 25 (IANS) A speeding Blueline bus Tuesday mowed down a 28-year-old labourer when he was crossing the road in east Delhi, the police said.
The labourer, identified as Suresh Kumar, a resident of Madhu Vihar, was going to his work when he was hit by the Blueline bus, plying on route number 534 between Anand Vihar and Mehrauli, near IP Extension around 1 p.m.
The victim is survived by a wife and children.
'Suresh was crossing the road in front of Amrapali Apartments when the bus, which was about to take a turn, hit him at the T-junction,' said a police officer.
Bus driver Sher Singh, fearing public wrath, fled from the spot leaving the vehicle behind. He, however, surrendered to the police later.
The police said a case of rash and negligent driving was registered against Singh.
More than 80 people have died under the wheels of privately operated Blueline buses this year. At least 120 people had lost their lives in accidents involving these buses in 2007.
