Islamabad June 28 (ANI): Pakistan's Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Raja Abdur Rehman has been asked to submit a report within a fortnight on Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan's detention.

The single bench of the Islamabad High Court headed by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam heard a writ petition filed by advocate Javed Iqbal Jafferi.

According to the Daily Times, Rehman told the court that Dr. Khan was not being kept in detention, as visitors were being allowed to meet him.

Rehman said that Khan's security had been beefed up for his protection, and added, "Khan is making statements that are against national interest, which could tarnish Pakistan's image at a critical time."

He urged the High Court to restrict Khan from issuing such statements.

Chief Justice Aslam replied that the court could not pass such directions unless a writ petition in this regard was filed.

During previous hearings, Jafferi had maintained that Khan was being kept in detention and was not being allowed to meet his relatives.

He demanded that the Government should remove restrictions on Khan's movement, allow him to meet visitors, provide him a laboratory for his research work and allow him to move inside the country.

Rehman sought a month's time to submit the reply but Chief Justice Aslam directed him to submit the report within a fortnight. (ANI)
