Charity costs F1 diver Mark Webber

Australasia, Sat, 22 Nov 2008 IANS

Sydney, Nov 22 (DPA) Formula One driver Mark Webber collided with a car Saturday and broke his leg while riding a bicycle in a multi-sport charity event he sponsors in Australia.

The Red Bull driver was airlifted to Royal Hobart Hospital by helicopter from Fortescue Bay in Tasmania after the head-on collision.

Event spokeswoman Nancy Cook told national broadcaster ABC that The Mark Webber Pure Tasmania challenge is a 250-kilometre multi-sport event across Tasmania in which competitors cycle, kayak and trek a daily course to raise funds for charity.

'Mark's been involved in a minor accident, he's fine,' she said. 'He's being treated, he's really disappointed that he's not going to be able to continue but he's well and being looked after.'
