Seven Indians among crew of hijacked ship M.V. Delight
Mumbai, Nov 20 (IANS) There are seven Indian crewmen on board the bulk cargo carrier M.V. Delight that was hijacked by pirates near the Gulf of Aden Tuesday afternoon with a consignment of 38,000 tonnes wheat, a top government agency said here Thursday.
According to the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), apart from the Indians, the ship also has Filipinos and Iranians (seven each) and Pakistanis and Ghanians (two each) on board.
A Mumbai-based company, Wilhelmsen Ship Management, employs the Indian crewmen, whose identities were not immediately available.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines owns the M.V. Delight, which bears a Hong Kong flag.
The ship was carrying the wheat from Hong Kong to Iran?s Bandar Abbas port when it was hijacked by suspected Somali pirates, a spokesman for the National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) has said.
