New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS) The Delhi High Court sought an explanation from the Delhi Police commissioner for not registering a first information report (FIR) in a murder case in August last year.
Justice Kailash Gambhir asked the police chief to file an affidavit explaining why the police did not register the FIR despite several complaints by the sister of the victim.
The court asked the police to file their reply by Dec 3, the next date of hearing.
The direction came after two senior officials failed to give a satisfactory explanation to the court.
“In both the affidavits filed by the joint commissioner and the additional commissioner (of police) no reasons have been given as to what prevented the police to first register an FIR and then proceed with the necessary investigation or enquiry,” the court observed.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Radha alleging that the police had not taken any action after her brother was killed in Rohini area of Delhi last year.
Despite several requests to lodge an FIR, the police simply transferred the complaint to the Crime Branch.
