Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 19 (IANS) Police have finally initiated action against Ajendra Singh, whom Priyanka Singh, a former Miss Meerut who has been accused of murdering her parents, had accused of raping her.

Priyanka, 25, had throttled her mother in a fit of rage and knifed her father when he tried to intervene Nov 10, police said, adding that her friend Anju was with her throughout. The two were arrested Monday and a court here Tuesday remanded them in 14-day judicial custody.

In her statement to police, Priyanka had stated that she had left her home, as her relations with her parents were strained, and chose to live with Anju in Amroha in Jyotiba Phule (J.P.) Nagar, where her friend's cousin Ajendra had raped her.

In her statement, Priyanka said she had tried to lodge a complaint about rape but police did not register it.

Taking a cognizance of her statement, the Meerut police initiated the move to provide her justice, a police official said.

'The SSP (senior superintendent of police, Meerut) has written a letter to the SSP of J.P. Nagar to initiate legal action against Ajendra Singh who had allegedly raped the girl,' he said.
