Uma's BJS, Govindacharya's RSA to work together for 'Ram and Roti'

Bhopal, Nov 18 (IANS) The political outfits led by two former Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Uma Bharati and K.N. Govindacharya will work together after the ongoing elections in six states conclude next month.

Announcing the forthcoming merger of her Bharatiya Jan Shakti (BJS) party and Govindacharya's Rashtriya Swabhiman Andolan (RSA), Uma Bharati said Tuesday that while Govindacharya would become the national president of her party, she would don the mantle of the party's working (executive) president. Another BJS stalwart, Sanghpriya Gautam will also be the working president of the party, she said.

The firebrand Hindu leader told reporters here that after Govindacharya takes over as BJS president, the party will become the political wing of RSA as is the case between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS).

She, however, ruled out the RSA becoming an organisation parallel to RSS.

'On the contrary, the BJS would emerge as another political wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) irrespective of whether RSS accepts it or not', she said.

Asserting that the country needs both 'Ram and Roti', Uma Bharti said they would strive to fight for it by creating awareness among the people. 'With this the actual 'Third Force', nationalistic in character and based on Hindutva ideology, will come into being before the coming general elections.

Uma Bharati also accused BJP leader L.K. Advani of adopting double standards citing his silence over the allegations of torture raised by Hindu asetic, Pragya Singh Thakur, who has been held in connection with the Malegaon serial blasts.

'Pragya had a vital role in taking the BJP's Ram Temple agenda ahead and Advani should swing into action and take up the matter of her alleged torture with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil,' she said.

The government cannot neglect the Leader of the Opposition's intervention', said Uma Bharti adding it was regrettable that Advani was yet to take up the matter though his colleagues were vociferously raising it.

Asked about her views on BJP's manifesto and Congress chargesheet against the ruling BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, she said that while the former should have come out with 'Safai Patra' (a note of clarification why it did not fulfil promises made in the previous elections), the latter should issue a 'Guarantee Patra', assuring that the promises it makes would be fulfilled.

The Congress should also promise that the mistakes of erstwhile Digvijay Singh regime would not be repeated, she added.
