India and Pakistan to free prisoners on their 60th Independence Day
July 05: On the 60 th Independence Day of both the neighbours, India and Pakistan have decided to free each other’s prisoners. In a Home Secretary level talks both have also agreed to take effective measures to fight terrorism.

Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta carried out an extensive and fruitful meeting with Pakistani Secretary in the Interior Ministry Syed Shah. Apart from cross border terrorism, both have agreed to take considerable action against drug trafficking and to make visa agreement more flexible. It is also agreed to setup cooperation between the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and its Pakistani counter part Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
On Aug 14-15 of this year India and Pakistan will free all fishermen along with their fishing boats. Also all those prisoners who have already completed their sentence will be also released.
The whole process was started after the formation of “Committee on Prisoners”, comprising of eminent retired judges from India and Pakistan. Finally Consular Access and Agreement resulted in the current development of releasing prisoners
The secretary level talk was a part of bilateral relation and composite dialogue process that has started since 2003. So far the process have been successful in building diplomatic relation, transport links, joint sporting events and overall an effort to tackle terrorism.
