Two killed in stampede during Chiranjeevi's road show
Hyderabad, Nov 17 (IANS) Two people were killed in a stampede Monday during actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi's road show near Dharmavaram in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
Police said the incident took place when thousands of people gathered to see Chiranjeevi during his road show. A stampede occurred when a group of people tried to surge forward to catch a glimpse of the superstar standing on his vehicle and addressing the crowd.
The Praja Rajyam president expressed his grief over the deaths and announced a compensation of Rs.100,000 to the kin of each. Chiranjeevi also promised to take care of their families.
A large number of people turn out to see and hear Chiranjeevi, who began his 'yatra' in Rayalseema region Sunday. Huge crowds line up on either side at any place his convoy stops.
In a similar incident October, two people were killed during his 'yatra' in north coastal Andhra.
