US gives three million dollars in aid as flood relief in Bihar

Patna, Thu, 26 Jun 2008 ANI

Patna, June 26 (ANI): The United States has extended an aid of three million dollars for the flood-affected areas of Bihar.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) would route this aid through 'CARE', an international NGO providing emergency relief and rehabilitation.

"We would be targeting 53,000 community members. In terms of the specificities of it, I think that is left with CARE-India to see where needs fit," said Gerald Smith, the Science Attache of the AUS Department of Agriculture.

"The focus is on helping people who have been affected by floods. In some cases that would be done through providing small grants and, it might be providing agriculture and practical farming assistance. It might involve helping men collectivize work together and develop new livelihoods producing something which would help them to sell and to create the markets," said Elizabeth Sime, country director for CARE.
