Washington, June 26 (ANI): Hollywood star couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated 1 million dollars to help children affected by the Iraq war.

The Jolie-Pitt Foundation has given 500,000 dollars to three groups in the war-torn country which will provide aid for some 5,700 children, said the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which is co-chaired by Jolie.

The other 500,000 dollars will go to the U.S.' Armed Services YMCA Operation Hero Program, which provides tutoring and counseling for children who have a parent stationed overseas or have lost a parent in the fighting.

"These educational support programs for children of conflict are the best way to help them heal," People quoted Jolie, as saying.

Pitt added: "We hope to encourage others to give to these great organizations."

Jolie, a United Nations goodwill ambassador, is well-known for her humanitarian work.

In February, the actress went on her second trip to Iraq, for a State Department mission to research the displacement crisis.

In May, she wrote an op-ed piece in The Washington Post calling for aid for Iraqi refugees. (ANI)
