Americas, Mon, 17 Nov 2008 IANS

Ottawa, Nov 17 (Xinhua) Seven people were killed when a light aircraft crashed on an island off Canada's western British Columbia province, officials said.

Seven of the eight people on board the Grumman Goose airplane were found dead after the crash Sunday, according to the Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Victoria.

One person surprisingly survived the crash and was found by the Canadian Coast Guard on the beach of Thormanby Island, the centre said.

The aircraft was a commercial plane owned by Pacific Coastal Airlines, according to local media reports. It was carrying workers to a hydroelectric project on the coast of British Columbia.
