Airhostess suicide case: Menon's bail plea rejected

Mumbai, Sat, 21 Jun 2008 NI Wire

A Mumbai magistrate court denied the bail plea of Arjun Menon, the co-pilot of Indigo Airlines. He was taken on arrest by the Mumbai police for allegedly abetting the suicide of airhostess Sucheta Anand. He was sent to further judicial custody till July 3 by magistrate G S Wankhede.

Mumbai police arrested Menon on June 12 after the case filed by Anand's brother, Manish Anand who spent some time with Anand just before she committed suicide. She ended her life by hanging herself in a suburban Juhu hotel on June 7.

The 25 year old Anand was not in good terms with her in-laws due to which she had filed a divorce petition on account of the alleged harassment she was subjected at her in-laws home. Anand is also said to be having an affair with Arjun.

Menon's lawyer asserted on the absence of any strong evidence against Menon for such a charge and said the police were merely probing “in the dark”.

The Menons remained glued to their point that Arjun was just a “concerned friend” to Sucheta and nothing else. They objected on the point that Arjun was being imaged in a bad light by the media and police. Meanwhile the mobile records of both Sucheta and Arjun are being scanned including the details of the message that could have been deleted.
