Srinagar, Nov 13 (ANI): Supporters of the National Conference and the Congress parties clashed in Srinagar on Thursday.

The clashes occurred during the National Conference President Omar Abdullah's election road show in Ganderbal constituency.

Security personnel resorted to tear gas shells to disperse the clashing supporters of both the parties.

According to reports, several supporters of the two parties got injured in the clashes.

Abdullah is contesting elections against Qazi Muhammad Afzal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Sheikh Muhammad Ashfaq of the Congress.

"I have come to Ganderbal constituency. I have come here to talk to them to listen to their viewpoints. I have come here in the hope that when the elections begin they will give me a chance to represent myself as their leader," said Abdullah.

The seven-phase polling will begin from November 17 and end on December 24 to replace the central rule imposed after a Congress party-led coalition government fell in July over Amarnath shrine land transfer row.

Separatists have said they will boycott any state election. (ANI)
