Deposit blankets, earn blessings at this unique bank

National, Wed, 12 Nov 2008 IANS

Lucknow, Nov 12 (IANS) Here comes a bank that allows you to earn blessings as interest on every deposit made. Set up by a non-profit organisation Tornos Foundation, the 'Blanket Bank' is an innovative effort to serve the needy during winter.

'People can deposit old blankets, woollen clothes and other items at this bank and collect blessing points as interest in return,' CEO of Tornos foundation Prateek Hira told IANS.

Articles deposited, rather donated, in the bank carry different 'reward blessing points'.

'A blanket or quilt deposited at the bank will 'earn' one the maximum blessing points, that is, 10. Likewise, a jacket will earn you seven, pullover five, and gloves two blessing points,' said Hira.

According to Tornos foundation, the warm clothes collected by the bank will be distributed among the poor and needy during the winter season.

The bank, which was set up last week, already has 15 patrons, who have donated woollen clothes for the needy.

'A team of Tornos foundation will venture out in the dead of night identifying underprivileged homeless people and will hand over the items donated by our customers,' said Hira.

Out of the 15 patrons, the maximum are from the Indira Nagar locality where the bank is set up.
