Six killed in Mumbai building collapse
Mumbai, Nov 12 (IANS) At least six members of a family were killed Wednesday when a building in south Mumbai collapsed, police said.
The rear portion of the Sayyed House building near Crawford Market collapsed at around 5.30 a.m. when the victims were asleep.
Rescue workers pulled out the bodies of six members of the Sayyed family by afternoon. The police have identified the victims as: Imran Sayyed (42), Aamna Sayyed (36), Farheen Sayyed (32), Salman Sayyed (27), Umar Sayyed (12), and Mariam Sayyed (8).
According to the fire brigade, there could be at least one more victim trapped in the debris. Rescue operations were underway, almost 12 hours after the crash.
A surviving family member, whose identity could not be ascertained, claimed that even though it was an old building, the Sayyed House was in a good condition.
He alleged that it collapsed due to the negligence of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCG). Sayyed House is located near the Mumbai Police headquarters.
