Obama calls Prime Minister Singh, talks Indo-US ties

The US President-elect Barack Obama on Wednesday morning in a telephonic conversation with Prime Minster Manmohan Singh told that the new administration would like to continue the greater cooperation between Indo-US ties.

Obama, in his brief talk with Dr. Singh, expressed that US-India strategic partnership is very important and he will work with the world’s largest democracy on all global issues.

Congratulating Obama, PM Singh said that his historic victory was a source of inspiration for oppressed people all over the world; the US president-elect also commended Manmohan Singh’s contribution to India's progress, first as a finance minister and now as prime minister, said an official release of Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The Prime Minister also said that Indo-US relations were very good but at the same time, we shouldn’t be satisfied with the status quo.

Conveying his best wishes for the success of the new administration in dealing the enormous challenges that face the world, Manmohan Singh invited Obama to visit India.

The President-elect said that he wished to make an early visit to India.

Earlier, it was speculated that Obama ignored India, when making diplomatic calls to 15 world leaders including Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari. However, it was refuted by the Indian prime minister that the US-president-to-be had wanted to talk with him earlier, but couldn’t as he was travelling.
