Angry supporters of Congress leader vandalize party's Delhi office
New Delhi, Nov 11 (IANS) Angry supporters of a Congress party leader vandalized the Delhi office late Monday night after she was denied a ticket for the Delhi assembly elections.
Supporters of former Delhi mayor and Congress leader Jayshree Panwar damaged the party office and smashed the glass panes of Delhi Congress president J.P. Aggarwal's car Monday night after the Congress announced its final list of 22 candidates for the Nov 29 elections, police said.
According to party sources, Panwar's name was doing the rounds for the Greater Kailash constituency, but she was denied a ticket.
Former municipal councillor Jitender Kochar, a favourite of Aggarwal, has been given the ticket from the constituency.
Kochar has been pitted against Bharatiya Janata Party's chief ministerial candidate V.K Malhotra from Greater Kailash.
Trying to play down the incident, Aggarwal denied that those behind the vandalization were from the party.
"I don't know who are behind the incident. We have registered a complaint at the Indraprastha Police Station and asked for stringent action against those involved in it," Aggarwal said.
There was a lot of confusion and lobbying over Congress party candidates for the Delhi elections. The list of 22 candidates was released just a day before the nomination process closes Tuesday.
