The Aarushi murder does not seem to die down. And as with every passing day the mystery surrounding the death of this teenaged 14-year old Noida girl, Aarushi Talwar along with her domestic help, Hemraj getting deepened, there is much to be revealed than what is underneath such a gruesome murder.
Events after events surrounding the murder for the last two weeks point to some foul play, something like a dramatic thriller, the police are yet to come to one conclusion: who is the real culprit? This question is on everyone lips – from the police to the neighbours to the people all over the country. Now that the father, Dr Rajesh Talwar, has been sent to police remand for three days and his lawyer is asking for CBI probe into the case, there is talk of cover up. In the tug of war between the Centre and the UP government, the case has got a whole new dimension.
Meanwhile, Dr Nupur, the mother of the deceased girl, who spoke to the TV channel and leveled charge against the UP police for inefficiency, said that the real culprit is at large and that police is yet to nab him. Though one example of inefficiency from the UP police side is quite obvious as it retrieved the CPU of Aarushi’s computer well over a week passed, the possibility of involvement of a very close family cannot be negated. As robbery, rape or burglary was not the motive, the needle of suspicion points to someone who masterminded the whole operation with dexterity of a veteran criminal. And why? Certainly, to cover up the misdemeanour, the culprit killed the person who knew the secret.
Though with so much highlight aided with post mortem report or forensic report, it has been widely accepted that the murder appears to be the work of some expert professional who could be a doctor or a butcher, the actual cause and circumstances that led to the act are yet to be ascertained. Aarushi’s classmates took out a peaceful rally in protest against the allegation by the police. In fact, with each passing day people are getting furious with the UP police’s failure to collect any concrete evidence, which would have led to the real killer. Forensic report of Aarushi’s dead body ruled out possibility of any sexual assault prior to her death.
This budding girl Aarushi, the daughter of Dr Rajesh Talwar and Dr Nupur Talwar, who are both dentist at Fortis hospital, Noida, was found murdered in her bedroom on May 16 with her throat slit in the bedroom of her flat in Jal Vayu Vihar.
Finger of suspicion first pointed towards Hemraj, the domestic servant. However, a day later, the police recovered Hemraj’s body from terrace of Talwar's house, but not on its own. In fact, a retired army officer, who had gone to pay his condolences to the family spotted his body and informed the police. The question is: why did the police not search the whole premises on the very first day when they recovered Aarushi’s dead body? Were the Talwars known to the Hemraj’s dead body lying on the terrace? And did no one from the family go upstairs in the meantime? There are many more such questions.
It seems very hard for anyone to believe that Dr. Talwar can kill his own daughter though this can also not be ruled out in extreme cases. Did Aarushi know something very crucial that took away her life? Many theories are in the air. Honour killing was first theory floated in the media. Love angle between Dr Talwar and Dr Anita Durani, a close family friend of Dr Talwar and between Aarushi and Hemraj. Whatever be the possibility, the police needs to find out the truth as soon as possible.
The murder is a pointer to a trend in urban India where extra-marital affairs has become common disease, especially in middle-aged people. No less is the affairs among teenagers in schools that are openly talked within the household premises these days. Neither less dangerous are growing number of affairs in the offices. And when the passion of two sets of people from different generations clash, cases like Aarushi’s murder become a real aftermath.
Meanwhile, if we must support Aarushi’s honour and fair justice for her, we must take care of this social evil that has penetrated so deep in our lives. The CBI, as demanded by Talwars, should take over the investigation immediately. What we, like everyone, want is that the real culprit must be caught, tried and prosecuted.

May 31, 2008 at 12:00 AMAs i heard and saw the news on the telivison,Dr. Talwar is not an innocent father,he did such sort of activity which is very shamefull,he tried to blame and commited murder of his daughter and his servent.Mrs. Talwar may know something about this case, she must reaveled out that she knows.I want justice for that innocent girl.
It is somewhat a good article but the concluding remarks (the murder is a pointer to a trend....) makes me feel that the writer is with a middle class set of mind who have the traditional value system which makes them sound medicores in the contemporary times where we feel at liberty to present our real self in the society.
