The master blaster who was not fit to play after returning from Australia, where he scored an unbeaten 117 and 91 in the best-of-three finals against the Aussies, was instructed to take a break; missing the first half of ongoing DLF Indian Premier League cricket with the same injury problem.
Missing first seven games of IPL, Sachin only made a total of 188 runs at an average of 31.33 and a strike rate of 106 while leading Mumbai Indians. However, the team couldn’t qualify to the Semi-finals due to some crunch matches.
Earlier, Sachin had missed two Test matches against South Africa in March and his injury at present might have stretched up with this IPL appearance.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Niranjan Shah confirmed that Sachin will not available for the tri-series as he has not recovered fully.
Apart from Sachin, pace man Zaheer Khan is also possibly opted out from the tri-series with an ankle injury and left-arm spinner Murali Kartik is also unlikely to play, as he is suffering from a bone bruise in the left ankle while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL.
The tri-series -involving India, Pakistan and Bangladesh- is scheduled to take place from June 8 to 14. And the Asia Cup (in Pakistan) limited-over contest involving the three mentioned along with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates will be on the rally from June 24 to July 06.
