Aarushi murder: UP recommends, Centre reluctant for CBI probe

The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday gave its consent for a CBI probe; however, the Centre has expressed its reluctance over a possible CBI investigation into Aarushi murder case. UP Chief Minister Mayawati, who has sent a recommendation letter to UPA government seeking a high-level probe by CBI, accused Centre for politicising the murder.

As the most unpopular Noida police is still struggling to find any concrete evidence in the double murder of teenage Aarushi Talwar and her domestic help Hemraj, the state government on Thursday recommended a CBI probe into the murder case which was soon turned down by MoS (Home) Sriprakash Jaiswal citing ‘no need for a high level investigation’.

On Thursday after criticism from various quarters over the rash investigation procedure by the police, the Chief Minister and BSP Supremo Mayawati announced that a letter of recommendation for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe is being sent to the Centre.

However, as the probe is already in the hands of UP Special Task Force, Jaiswal expressed Centre's reluctance to handover the case to CBI.

Meanwhile, Mayawati has accused Congress for using this murder as a political tool to start fresh blame game. She was reacting over the comment of Union Women and Children Development Minister Renuka Chowdhury, who criticised UP police for their insensitivity towards the case.

Uttering strong words in a crowded press conference, Mayawati said that if a CBI inquiry is not permitted then UP police will do their best in nabbing the real culprit and not punishing any innocent.

On Wednesday, Dr. Rajesh Talwar’s family had filed a contempt petition against Noida police for not informing the whereabouts of Talwar and going against the court’s order which permits the presence of Talwar’s lawyer during interrogation.

Meanwhile, the police is seeking permission for Narco-analysis and lie-detection Test of Aarushi’s father Rajesh Talwar, the prime accused who has been sent for a 3-day remand.

Following the development of murder case and the arrest of Dr. Talwar, Aarushi’s mother in a television interview has raised suspicion over police investigation and demanded for a CBI probe.

In wee hours of May 16, the entire Nation went into shock when 14-year-old Aarushi found dead in her bed room and the following day the body of Hemraj, recovered from the terrace of the same. However, the manner UP police has so far conducted the investigation, and made public the modus operandi one after another press conference put questions on the entire functioning.
