Govt ready to redefine 'major parties': Khanal
Kathmandu, Nov 9 (ANI): The Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML) General Secretary Jhalanath Khanal said on Sunday that the government is all set to table a proposal at the legislature-parliament in a bid to resolve the differences among the political parties over the definition of 'major parties' as mentioned in the interim constitution.
According to Kantipur, Khanal said this during his meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today. He said the matter will be discussed at the meeting of the Council of Ministers and a proposal will be presented before the house.
The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) and the fringe parties have been questioning the criteria to call a party a major one since the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) was formed nearly two weeks ago.
Khanal said, "PM Dahal is willing to resolve the dispute among the parties concerning the issue of major parties."
Earlier, the Maoist and UML leaderships discussed the need for the consultations before nomination in the constitutional bodies, the inquiry into the cases of disappeared people and initiating preparations for setting up national restructuring commission during the meeting.
Khanal further said that he asked the PM to be serious towards recent controversial remarks made by Vice President Parmananda Jha. (ANI)
