Sherry Rehman says Obama's win will re-energise Pak-US relations
Islamabad, Nov 8 (ANI): Pakistan Information and Broadcasting Minister Sherry Rehman has said that US President-elect Barack Obama's victory was inspiring for proponents of democracy. It reinforced their firm belief in democracy's power to bring about a definitive change in leadership and policy through genuine participatory processes, she said further.
Sherry also said that Obama's election had given Pakistan an opportunity to re-energise its relations with its important international ally the US. "We look forward to the opportunity of working with the new US administration that has positively reciprocated to our desire for a partnership that works for world peace and regional stability," she said.
In a statement issued here yesterday, Sherry said the influence of the US on shaping global ideas on politics and economics was a testament of American leadership and its vision.
"President-elect Barack Obama's campaign slogan for 'change' has created a new set of global expectations about the US, which will be a major challenge for its new administration. Yet, it also presents an opportunity for bringing about qualitative policy changes that can create enduring global peace and economic security," the Daily Times quoted her as saying.
She added that by voting for Obama, Americans had placed a seal of approval on an international order that "puts primacy on engagement and dialogue for resolving global challenges".
Sherry said the US polls had shown "significant changes in the US voters' preferences" that reflected the future President's vision for America's role vis-à-vis the rest of the world. (ANI)
