Raipur's tribal girls get an education and acquire vocational skills

Raipur, Nov.7 (ANI): Several tribal girls of Raipur are getting access to education and acquiring vocational skills.

 

A visit to the Manpur area on the outskirts of Raipur showcases how tribal girls, are being offered an opportunity to educate themselves and learn various artistic skills.

 

Rukmani Markam, a student of the Kasturba Gandhi Avasiya Balika Vidyalaya in Manpur, said: "We are very happy to be here. The staff and teachers are very encouraging. We have been provided all required things."

 

Deepa, another student, said: " We are taught all subjects here. And, we are also encouraged to rise in life."

 

This school is being run at elementary level, where besides students are being given education as well as vocational training to prepare various articles. It is because of this curriculum, all girls at the school are being trained in tailoring and embroidery work so that they could become self-reliant in life.

 

The other important thing here is that the students are provided a motivating and congenial study environment which is ensure to be away from all kinds of distractions.

 

The ongoing endeavour is part of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (education for all) programme is intended to enable everyone to get education.

 

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is an effort to universalise elementary education by community-ownership of the school system.

 

The programme is stated to be a response to the demand for quality basic education all over the country.It is also an attempt to offer an opportunity to improve human capabilities of all children, through provision of community-owned quality education in a mission mode.

 

It is meant to provide useful and relevant elementary education for all children in the 6 to 14 age group by 2010. It also intends to bridge social, regional and gender gaps, with the active participation of the community in the management of schools

 

D.P.Manhar, Vikas Khand Shiksha Adhikari, in Manpur, said: "There has been quite improvement in the condition of schools here. The enrollment of students has also risen. To teach these tribal girls special training is also accorded. With such an initiative, the awareness towards education has risen. People have become aware about its importance in their lives."
