Box-office dud 'Summer 2007' to compete at IFFI

New Delhi, Nov 7 (IANS) Though 'Summer 2007' sank at the box-office it has been selected as one among the four Hindi feature films to compete in the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), to be held in Goa later this month.

Producer Atul Pandey is pleasantly surprised with the entry of his film that highlighted the issues that led farmers to commit suicide in Maharashtra, especially in the Vidarbha region.

It will compete with hit films like Neeraj Pandey's 'A Wednesday', Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Jodhaa Akbar' and Aamir Khan's widely appreciated 'Taare Zameen Par'.

'One feels happy when a film on an unconventional subject and by a first time filmmaker reaches a film festival like IFFI,' Pandey told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

'Our film was given a very step motherly treatment and we had to bear huge losses after the film's release. But now we are happy with the film and believe it was the right thing to do,' he added.

The film starred Sikander Kher, Gul Panag, Yuvika Choudhury, Arjan Bajwa and Alekh Sanghal. IFFI begins Nov 22 and will conclude Dec 2.
