New Delhi, Mon, 19 May 2008 NI Wire

Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday announced to reward the railway employees for highest ever freight loading in this fiscal year. This financial year, Indian Railways have carried a record 794-million tonnes, surpassing the initial as well as revised target of railway ministry.

The Railway Ministry had set the initial target of 785-million tonnes (MT), but later had revised it to 790MT. The Minister has announced the cash awards of Rs.17.40-crore to distribute all zonal railways, production units and Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE). These awards would be passed to their respective employees.

Out of Rs.17.40-crore, each zonal railway will get Rs.1-crore each, the six production units will get Rs.20 lakhs each and CORE will get Rs.20 lakhs.

This year, Indian Railways have surpassed the previous highest ever incremental loading record of 64.61 MT achieved in 2005-06 by registering the record 65.59MT. Now, viewing the momentum of spectacular freight loading performance, Railways have set the target of 850MT in 2008-09 while an ambitious target of 1100MT has been fixed by the ending year of 11th five-year plan, as per railway official stated.

Ministry has appreciated the vision and vital leadership of Lalu Prasad Yadav, the Union Railway Minister, and his two subordinates R Velu and Naranbhai J. Rathwa, the ministers of railway for state, the proficient and dedicated railway officials and staff and committed, hardworking teamwork of all railway employees.

Since 2004-2005 the Indian Railways in UPA regime under the leadership of Lalu Prasad Yadav have marked several milestones and run positively from heavy loss to hefty profits.
