Adapa Karthik and Arushi Jain top the CSE 2008

New Delhi, Sat, 17 May 2008 Binita Tiwari

The final result of the most prestigious Civil Services Exam is out; as usual it leaves some in celebration, while most in despair.

This time, a total of 734 candidates have made it to the final list for the various services under CSE including Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Services, and Indian Foreign Service.

Topper Adapa Karthik, like previous topper Muthyala Raju, too belongs to Andhra Pradesh who is currently an IPS officer undergoing training and making his state proud. Supreet Singh Gulati hails from Delhi is an alumni of Indian Institute of Madras is the second topper, while Asima Jain who is placed at 7th rank is the topper amongst 154 women candidates who have qualified for the prestigious services. Asima Jain is a post graduate student of Delhi School of Economics.

The dynamic exam known to test the administrative skills of the candidate has been suggested with various changes and has also been dragged to court for various reasons including the scaling methodology of the exam and disclosure of cut-off marks in preliminary exam.

Also, on May 19, Supreme Court will hear a plea filed by Centre against Madras High Court which in a judgement directed the UPSC to prepare the merit list of 2005 CSE and directed them to treat reserved category student under merit list as unreserved candidate.

The tough exam pattern and the timing of the final result leave many aspirants jittery and it takes a tough mental test for those who could not manage to come among the list of successful students and had to prepare for the test few days after the final result.
