Bank in Meerut robbed of Rs.2 mn

Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 6 (IANS) Four unidentified criminals Thursday afternoon robbed nearly Rs.two million from a branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce in a Meerut suburb of Uttar Pradesh, police said.

 

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Meerut Range) P. Rama Shastri said four criminals armed with pistols barged into the bank's Sarurpur branch. One of the robbers held three bank employees at gun point while another collected cash from the table and the currency chest, he said.

 

 

The total amount robbed from the bank was later counted to Rs.1.8 million while the robbers also robbed two customers taking Rs.20,000 from Krishna Pal and Rs.175,000 from Kapil, Rama Shastri said.

 

 

After the 10-minute operation, they fled on two motorcycles, he said, adding that the security measures at the bank were insufficient.
